Kundan and his family received help during a time of need

Kundan kumar, Son of Shri Anandi Manjhi
Dear Laura, Partha, and Jennifer,

Thank you for supporting a child like Kundan and providing them with clothing and medical care for an entire year.

Kundan is 11 years old. His parents, Anandi and Parwati, live in a slum in the outskirts of Patna, the capital city of Bihar, India. One look at their hut alone tells of the many obstacles Kundan must overcome. Kundan’s father is a casual laborer. Since he is addicted to country liquor, this takes away a significant percentage of what he earns from work. His mother is forced to work as a laborer herself to supplement the family income — if she doesn’t work, the family might well starve. Kundan is studying in grade IV at the school run by Shoshit Seva Sangh, and has been at the school for three years now. He secured 86% on reviews in the previous academic year.

In Bihar, where 50% of the population lives below the poverty line, the Musahar community is the poorest of the poor. Less than 1% of the 1.3 million Musahar living in Bihar are literate, and less than 2% own their land. Regarded as “untouchables” in the Indian caste system, the Musahars have remained in poverty for centuries.

Shoshit Seva Sangh, a SeeYourImpact partner, is working to break the cycle of poverty by educating and caring for the children of the Musahar community.

For the last two years, Kundan’s tuition, clothing and medical care has been supported by SeeYourImpact supporters. Through your generosity, Laura, Partha and Jennifer, a child like Kundan will continue to have clothing and medical care for one more year. Thank you!
