All the hopes of his family rests on Manoj

Manoj in his uniform at school
Dear Debra,

Sixteen year old Manoj Kumar lost both his parents a few years back. Since then, he and his sister, Nirmal Kumari, have been brought up by their grandfather who is a landless laborer. Because of his old age, their grandfather struggles to find work, and the family barely has enough food to keep the hunger pangs at bay. Since their grandfather is very old, Manoj has always been conscious of the fact that looking after his sister would eventually be his responsibility and he despaired of ever finding a job that would ensure a sustainable livelihood.

The future looked very bleak for Manoj  till he got admission into the free English medium school run by Shoshit Seva Sangh. Manoj is now in Grade 5, and his grades have been consistently high in the four years that he has been in the school. He does particularly well in Maths and Science, and hopes to become an engineer. Even a few years back, nobody in his extended family (or even his community) would have even dared dream of engineering as a viable career option, but Manoj is confident of making his dream a reality.

Thanks to your generous donation of clothing and care for a full year, Debra, Manoj and his family can continue to hope that their tomorrow will be better than their today.

Manoj has subsequently received donations that cover a full year of tuition- he can now concentrate on his studies without worrying about anything else.

Vikash can now convert his dream into reality

Dear Everett,

Vikash at SSK

Vikash is 16 years old and is studying in 6th grade at Shoshit Seva Sangh. His parents are illiterate day laborers. The monthly income of his father and the mother would add up to 2000 rupees ($40) approximately. Without the support of Shoshit Seva Sangh and donors like Everett, they could not even dream of having their only son study in a fully free English medium residential school and getting high quality education.

Vikash is a promising child and particularly keen to learn English. His spoken English is praiseworthy. Thank you Everett for your generous support of Vikash!

Vikash has subsequently received an aggregate donation of a full year of tuition- he can now concentrate on his studies without having to worry about being able to afford the tuition.
