10-Year old Kundan Breaks the Poverty Cycle
posted August 22, 2010
Dear Daryl,
Thank you for helping Kundan break the cycle of poverty.
Kundan is 10 years old. His parents live in a slum in the out-skirts of Patna, the capital city of Bihar. One look at their hut alone tells of the obstacles Kundan must overcome. Kundan’s father is a casual laborer and is also addicted to country liquor. This addiction takes away a significant percentage of what he earns as a laborer, leaving little for Kundan’s future.
Daryl, thanks to your gift of an entire year’s tuition, you’ve made it possible for Kundan to continue his studies – and build a brighter future for himself!
Kundan Kumar is presently in class III and has been at the school for two years now. He is a bright student and for him, life has a completely new meaning now. The marks obtained by him in class I and class II are given below –
Year English Hindi Maths Science Social Studies
Class I- 2008 90% 95% 92% 88% 99%
Remarks of director: Excellent Work
Class II-2009 90% 87% 100% 94% 98%
Remarks of director: Congratulations
Although he comes from a difficult background, you can see how bright 10-year old Kundan’s future looks. Thank you for this incredible gift of continued hope.

For Ramesh life will now have a new meaning.

Ramesh Manjhi belongs to a remote village in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar. He joined the school in 2007. The parents of Ramesh are both landless day laborers. With their four children, they have only known extreme poverty and hopelessness. Their village is prone to flooding every year adding to their misery. Ramesh who joined the school in 2007 has shown determination to succeed. His progress in academics is indeed commendable. In the past year Ramesh improved his grades in each subject, notably his grade in English from 60% to 86% and his grade in science from 69% to 96%.
A bright future now beckons Ramesh, made possible by generous donations received from Tony (12 weeks), Mirunan (8 weeks), Sean (4 weeks), Salil (4 weeks), Francisco (2 weeks), and a match by Neil.

Dear Rahul,
Ajay is 8 yrs. old and comes from a Musahar Ghetto in a village called Khhori in a district called Samastipur in Bihar, India. Both his parents are illiterate and landless agricultural labourers. They get seasonal employment and live much below the poverty line.
His prematurely aging parents can hardly afford a decent life for themselves and their six children.
Ajay Sada however can now look forward to a transformed and bright future. He was admitted to Shoshit Samadhan Kendra, a school for Musahar children run by Shoshit Seva Sangh in December 2007 and is presently in class II. He can now aspire to become a well educated young man and all indications are that he should achieve this with the kindness of those who want to support him.
Thank you, Rahul, for your generous support of Ajay and Shoshit Seva Sangh!
